The Review: Ian Carr (guitar) known for his virtuoso and idiosyncratic playing, has worked with Kathryn Tickell, Kate Rusby, Eddi Reader and Swåp. Here he is joined by Niklas Roswall on nykelharpa who mirrors Ian's artistry and is known for his work with Ranarim and The Nykelharpa Orchestra, as well as being a highly respected teacher. A chance to perform together in Greece resulted in an eclectic musical comradeship which is captured on this CD. Full of punch, odd rhythms, sometimes delicate voicings and sudden swerves into lush lyricism, this is a helter-skelter journey through traditional Swedish polskas, shottisches, waltzes and their highly original compositions. This is definitely not a player and accompanist duet - both switch between lead, harmony and rhythm effortlessly. Daring and massive, such duet playing is very rare and shouldn't be missed.
