Short description:

The Review: The music from the great Portuguese composer José Afonso inspired him in his research through the popular musical tradition, but the star that guides his music is the search for links between the Alentejo’s popular tradition and the Arabian one (Algeria and Morocco). Already with a large career based on several records, he won several awards in the musical scene. Recently, he was the mentor of a project related to a peculiar form of Portuguese singing from Alentejo: the cante alentejano. Janita Salomé won the José Afonso Award for the album he recorded with his latest project "Vozes do Sul". This new album released this year is a career retrospective featuring some of his trademark songs, re-recorded and re-arranged, as well as newly-composed material which he is already trying out live.
