Short description:
The Review: A very well respected accordionist from Piteå, Erik's playing on this Cd is totally uncluttered and reminiscent of the old-time accordion style associated with the early twentieth century dance music repertoire. He started playing at the age of 7 and studied freebass accordion at the Framnäs folk high school in Piteå. A gifted accordionist, he then went on to choose chromatic button accordion and has now taken the single and double row diatonic melodeons as his preferred systems. At a time when most musicians are looking to creat more sophisticated sounds and arrangements, Erik holds steadfastly to his love of old-time dance music.
It's therefore very important to Erik and his guests on this CD (Pelle Björnlert - guitar and fiddle; Bengt L öfberg - fiddle and his son Anders Löfberg - double bass) to recapture the seemingly simple character of this dance repertoire: the arrangements are down-to-earth, strongly melodic and state the rhythm with unaffected clarity. There is no second voice within the melody playing: melodeon and fiddle play tirelessly in unison with no scenic routes to improvisation or variation. This is good old time dance music in it's purest form. The music is a great tribute to the old players and a style that almost vanished - bringing to life the styles of people such as Calle Jullarbo (1893-1956). Key words:
