The Review: From fROOTS Jan/Feb 2005:

It is difficult to describe this album precisely in audio terms; one feels the need to use visual images, though we would appear to need our taste buds as well as each of the 12 tracks is the title of a Gascon dish!
It is a collection of sound collages, blends of conversations, actuality recordings, electronic effects and samples blended with straightforward singing and instrumental playing. At times there are what seem to be dream sequences with impressionistic images that touch on French traditional dance rhythms. Does all the above make it seem to be swirling new-age easy listening mood music? Well decidely it isn't. It challenges the ear. This is a completely contemporary creation, and at the same time it is in the tradition and if this sounds like nonsense, you will just have to listen to the album (there is a track on this month's covermount) to hear what I mean. I've even cheated by looking at existing French reviews of this album on the internet only to find a shared fascinated confusion.
The thing is that we felt we knew where we were with Joan-Frances from his solo album and all the lovely Ver E Blue albums., particularly the stunning Msucias a Dancar from 2001; all albums of Gascon traditional music and song with their strong message about the continuing strength of Gascon language and culture. None of these earlier releases indicate that he was about to move on to this extraordinary, fascinating album.
