CD No: GCD-66 by Jonas Brandin, Erik Berg, Hadrian Prett called Bodålatar. Released: 2004
Short description:
The Review: This CD was made to feature not only three of the new generation of spelman in Sweden but moreover the particular music that comes from the tiny village of Boda. Boda polskas are beautiful in their irregularity and it has been said that 'playing a Boda polska is like rolling an egg'. It has great lift on the second beat and is a much loved dance all over Sweden.
These 3 young men play with the grit, intensity and longing befitting their strong Boda roots.
Jonas Brandin grew up in Boda, in a family steeped in the local folk music and he says it was down to Jöns Sven-Erik in the local spelmanslag that he really learned the difference between Boda and Bingsjö polska.
Hadrian Prett has been playing fiddle since the age of 6 and cites Göras Anders as a fiddle teacher. He met Brandin in the local spelmanslag but it was the music high school at Härnösand that they really started to explore each others' music.
Erik Berg played Boda tunes from the very beginning of his playing due to his grandfather Erik Maritz who was from Kärvsåsen in Boda
. There are some great performances of standard gems such as Klabblåten and their duo and trio playing is full of tension - following and enhancing eachother dramatically without compromising their strong individual styles. Key words:
