| 'Ghosts' is the debut CD from the EAC, who are John Dipper (violin), Robert Harbron (concertinas and bassoon) and Chris Wood (violin, viola, guitar and singing). This album was launched at Towersey festival in August 2004. EAC was originally conceived in 1998 as an umbrella for Chris Wood's teaching activities and also to encapsulate Chris' approach to teaching, composition and performance. Now it also includes John and Robert who are brilliant performers, teachers and excellent composers in their own right. 'Ghosts' is a sublime collection of original compositions, some traditional texts and melodies which have been beautifully and subtly arranged: the exploration of elegance within Englishness is very much at the heart of this music. The CD begins with a Robert Harbron composition (Copernicus) which firmly establishes the atmosphere of the recording with it's melodious celebratory feel. Chris Wood's vocals evoke so much emotion, whether bawdy, soulful or longing and this CD perfectly combines all the richness of his singing style with playfully interweaving instrumental ideas. 'Mari Lwyd' shows Chris' at his most understated and poignant but always building the tension within the story and 'Ruskin Mill Waltz' (Dipper) is mesmeric, captivating and wanders off into the distance as a beautiful ending to a captivating CD. Despite being a debut CD, there is a solidity of sound that is rooted throughout the CD: these players know, respect and trust eachothers' music, while being deeply rooted in the English tradition.
